Music Monday: Cobra Starship

In honor of their new CD Hot Mess coming out this week and their last cd ¡Viva la Cobra! which was one of my favorite albums of 2008, Cobra Starship is this Monday's music artist.

Their new single is "Good Girls Gone Bad" (yes that is Leighton Meester from Gossip Girl. No, she can't sing) which is pretty catchy.

Music Monday: Mike Relm

I first heard Mike Realm when "everything" (video below) was on the Youtube homepage. You can get a nice sampling of his music from his website (click on the store link to download the Spectacle sampler). Enjoy.

Music Monday: Blue Foundation

I actually first heard this band on So You Think You Can Dance a couple weeks ago. But after listening to Life of a Ghost they are quickly becoming one of my favorite music discoveries of the year.

Here is the music video for "Eyes on Fire" which is a great song...

Music Monday: Erik Scott Smith

I'll admit, I watched a movie called Garden Party yesterday in which Erik Smith is prominently featured.

He plays a singer in the movie so I watched the credits to see who wrote the songs because some of them were kind of catchy, turns out he was the writer and singer.

Sadly, his website is full of poorly designed flash suckage (you have been warned) and the only official music video I could find on Youtube was for a song called "Goodbye Providence" which I don't think I can really appreciate not being a 14 year old girl and all.

Anyway, I liked some of his songs in the movie, and for that, he's my music Monday pick.

Music Monday: TV On The Radio

I first came across Tv On The Radio in 2008, but didn't pay them much attention until their song "DLZ" was on Breaking Bad.

And after giving their album Dear Science a few listens I am thoroughly hooked.

On another note, the reason there hasn't been any music mondays the last couple weeks, or any posts for that matter, is because my media hard drive crashed, taking with it my computer and productivity for the last little while.

All I can say is hopefully the replacement will be here this week and everything will be back to normal. Also, backing up a one terabyte hard drive is a pain in the a**.

Music Monday: Elemental

elemental down to the wire album cover

Elemental was the opening band for Vast and even though we had never heard of them we were pleasantly surprised.

We ended up buying their CD and it's really good. You can listen to and buy the album over at CDBaby (I recommend "Low Blue Flame" and "Down to the wire", you can also listen in iTunes)

Music Monday (Actually Tuesday): VAST

Crap, I have been so busy with work that I forgot to post a "Music Monday." I feel extra-special bad for forgetting this week because VAST will be here in concert this week (becoming the first band I have ever seen in concert more than once).

VAST is my all-time favorite band. Looking at my favorite songs in iTunes I have 44 songs rated 2-stars or higher belonging to VAST and another 42 belonging to Jon Crosby or Bang Band Sixx (they also win the 3, 4, and 5 star categories).

I first heard VAST when the "Pretty when you cry" music video was making the rounds on The Box. That led me to download "Pretty when you cry" from Napster back in the day but not any other songs.

Then, a few years ago I was telling my wife about this creepy music video from some band named VAST, she wanted to see it so we looked it up on Youtube. Then we watched a few more videos of theirs. Then I found out all their old albums could be bought relatively cheap from their site, so I started listening to their albums, and with each listen they got better and better, and more songs got added to my favorites.

Now, almost every song from every album is on my favorites list. I love every single album from VAST, and all the Generica albums from Jon Crosby equally, so I can't single any one of them out, so be adventurous and listen to them all.

Here's the "Pretty when you cry" music video...

And here's "Free" which is another great song...

Music Monday: The Sounds

I noticed I have been going a little mellow the last couple of weeks, so here is something decidedly more upbeat, think Lady Gaga.

Music Monday: Tegan And Sara

"Call It Off" from The Con is one of my favorite songs, now you know...

New Music Monday: OSI

In honor of OSI's new CD Blood, they are today's new music Monday artist.

My favorite OSI album is Free and I pretty much love every track off that album. However, all their albums are great.

Here is Go off of the Free album, enjoy...

Yilkes contains all the awesome, funny, scary things I can find.
